1956 Vol 1, Best of 2020-21

Nineteen Fifty-Six celebrates its debut year with Melanin Magic, an issue all about empowering black students at the University of Alabama. The magazine released five issues and one special edition issue during the 2020-2021 academic year. Stories range from the 2020 election, to activism on campus, to features on black life. The overall theme: Celebrating the University of Alabama’s black students. As Nineteen Fifty-Six Editor-in-Chief Tionna Taite says: “When looking at campus publications, I realized something was missing. There was a void in terms of magazines that told the stories of present and past Black students at the University of Alabama.”
